How Bangori got his name

The zoo had a contest, open only to children, to name Mary’s new baby. There was a Docent meeting on a Thursday which was a couple of days before the winner was announced and several of us were asked to review the entries and help select a winner.  We looked at all the entries and, after rejecting some names such as Banana Joe, King Kong, etc., turned in our picks.

When I got to the Zoo Saturday morning I was told that the winning name was Bangori, a city in Africa. Since none of us had picked that name I got on the internet and discovered that Bangori was not only a city in Africa but also a river. I figured that gorillas don’t live in cities so the baby gorilla should be named after the river.

A few days later the first prize was awarded to the child who had submitted the winning name, Bangori. He was asked how he came up with the name. His reply:

I took the first three letters of banana and the first four letters

of gorilla = Bangori.

Banana + gorilla = Bangori

So there you have it – Banana Gorilla. But, if you see me at the Zoo and ask me how Bangori got his name, I will tell you he was named after a river in Africa.
